William (Bill) J. Henderson, 1925-2017

William (Bill) Jennings Henderson, 91, passed away Feb. 27 in Lexington, KY. He was born July 3, 1925. He is survived by his wife, Attie Ruth (Green) Henderson and three children: Dianne Henderson Nuñez, Billy Henderson, Brent Henderson and their spouses. Bill and Ruth have 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bill is a WWII veteran, having served as a Merchant Marine in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Mediterranean theaters. He retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority after 28 years of service. He raised awesome gardens and cows, built houses and commercial property, opened Henderson Dry Goods in Goreville, Ill. with his wife and was a dangerous horse trader. He is best known for his sincere love of God and his family and friends. Bill and Ruth were born and raised in Dayton, Tenn. and moved to thePaducah area in 1956 (West Paducah, Goreville, Ill., and Palma). They recently moved to Lexington to be near family. There was a memorial service Saturday, March 4, at Park United Methodist Church, 645 High St., Lexington, Kentucky (video below). Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Ayutla Widows Fund, 306 Maxey St., Wilmore, Ky 40390. Makes checks payable to JCF and designate “Widows” in the memo.
